Beauty in the Broken

1. INTO THE LIGHT

My eyes shine in the new sunrise
Everything sparkles
When the light hits it from the side
But at high noon it burns so bright
There just ain’t nowhere,
Nowhere left to hide
Step into the light, Step into the light
And it all depends on your point of view
For what’s old what fades
And what seems new
When all you thought was golden
Turns to rust so soon
You want the truth,
break on through into the light
Into the light, Into the light
There’s a reckoning for those
Who creep in the dark
There’s a lesson I suppose
To speak on the part
For those that walk free
And those that come clean
And those with the burden of heavy hearts
Step into the light, Step into the light

2. CASTING STONES

We strive for the glory but we all fall short
You point at another man’s scars
While you hide yours
Why do you hide yours
You point your finger
Like you know who to blame
But foolish is the man with no shame
Why don’t you show me a little shame
You think that you’re ready,
Why don’t you go ahead and cast the first stone
Hope you don’t find,
Hope you don’t find you’re casting stones alone
Sometimes we stumble,
Lord knows sometimes we fall
Tell me could you walk,
Could you walk before you crawled
You think that you’re ready,
why don’t you go ahead and cast the first stone
Hope you don’t find,
Hope you don’t find you’re casting stones alone
You judge a man for one choice that he made
Forever condemned for his worst mistake
It just takes one mistake
You think that you’re ready,
Why don’t you go ahead and cast the first stone
Hope you don’t find,
Hope you don’t find you’re casting stones alone

3. COSTA MESA

She left before dawn out of Raleigh,
Been three months maybe more
She never knew how bad her heart could ache
Till she knew what it was aching for
Headed west to California
To find some solitude in the crowd
She was going where the sunshine could see her,
Where the rain didn’t fall so loud
When your world just won’t stop turning
And all the leaving won’t make it right
Call out to me from where you are tonight
She moved out to Costa Mesa,
Got a job in a jewelry store
Found herself an old Monte Carlo,
The finest she could afford
Living out on the high desert,
She went out dancing every night
She says nothing hurts when you’re dancing,
Feels like everything’s gonna be all right
When your world just won’t stop turning
And all the leaving won’t make it right
Call out to me from where you are tonight
Well there’s power in letting go
And there’s power in taking hold
All you gotta learn just can’t be taught,
All that’s precious can’t be sold
So no matter how bad things get,
Find a way to thank the Lord
You never know how bad your heart can ache,
Till you know what it’s aching for
When your world just won’t stop turning
And all the leaving won’t make it right
Call out to me from where you are tonight

4. BOUND TO RISE

You can’t hear me when I don’t speak up
And I never know when you’ve had enough
Just how much is too much
I’m bound to get it right this time
Lord knows I’ll get it right some
Time blocks the light like a silhouette
Shadows of things I’ve tried to forget
Weight after weight placed on my chest
Just hasn’t stopped me yet
At least not yet
Only memories remain the same
So clear and so far removed
Years and years rolled up in an instant
With no choice of the moments we choose
We choose to remember
More and more I’ve learned how to guess
Just what I need and what can be left
The weight of what I can get by without
Is surely gonna bring me down,
bound to bring me down

5. BLIND MIND

I know the answer unless I’m mistaken,
Even so I’m gonna see it through
My opinion is just not for the taking
If it’s all the same to you
Fool me once shame on you,
Twice shame on me
After that no matter what you do
It’s hard to break free
From what you say what you do
And what you mean
And all the truth that lies in between

It no longer matters
Once their mind is made up
You can forget about
Your benefit of the doubt
You’re out of luck
When you just can’t regain trust
You’re gonna have to do without
People never change
Though perception often does
It must be so strange
When what is ain’t what was
I know your story
Like you think you know mine
I wish you could open up your blind mind

You try to draw a line down the middle
Of all the good and bad guys
I hope you know it’s not quite that simple
Wish you would open up your blind mind

I once was blind, but now I see,
Drifted now I’m awake
And the hatred all around me
Is far too much for me to take
So much education yet we remain so confused
Same old situations
Cause we still got the same old views
We don’t know how we got here
Though we’ve been here before
Beauty’s only skin deep
But when it’s rotten it’s to the core
If you dig a little deeper I think you might find
Wish you could open up your blind mind
Open up your blind mind

6. ROAD TO ZION

I walk the road that goes on forever
And the cold is much too hard
But I won’t stop now
And I’m not turning back,
I’ve already come this far
For the Word is my light
And a guide unto my path
And I shall not be lost
And I travel without want or need,
By the blood of the lamb,
I’ve been bought

And I know It’s a long and lonely journey
Before we make it back home
So next time your knees
Tremble from the weight
Don’t you hesitate to call
My Lord will be there
Right there by your side
And you shall not walk alone
Hallelujah I will see you in Zion,
In the glory of His love

Oh I’m going home, bye and bye
I’m gonna be with my King
And I’ll be ready to put on
My long white robe,
when I get to Zion

And we may fall
But our Lord shall lift us up,
No matter, no matter how low
With His powers of strength and love
And mercy that cannot be told
And I shall not fear
Even though my feet grow weary
And the road goes on and on
My Father waits and I am a child
Of the one true living God

Oh I’m going home, bye and bye
I’m gonna be with my King
And I’ll be ready to put on
My long white robe,
When I get to Zion

7. YELLOW MOON

Like a bird that’s left the nest
On brand new wings you’ve flown
But just where do you go
When this place is no longer home
I can tell by the look in your eyes
That you’re already gone
If it’s all the same to you
I think I’d like to come along,
Can I come along
Darling let’s go, we’ll head out on the road
And I know that we’ll be home soon
Beneath the high yellow moon
So pack your things but don’t bring a lot
While it won’t take much,
It’s gonna take all we got
Bring your coat and your favorite boots
We got a lot of walking to do
They say this storm won’t pass,
But I’m tired of waiting for the rain to pass
So let’s go we’ll sneak out the back
And we’ll be gone before they ask
Darling let’s go, we’ll head out on the road
And I know that we’ll be home soon
Beneath the high yellow moon
I don’t want to run away,
But I know enough to know that I can’t stay
I know somewhere somehow
There’s got to be a better way
I don’t mind wandering,
I don’t mind wandering around
Because I know as long as I’m with you,
My home will be found
Darling let’s go, we’ll head out on the road
And I know that we’ll be home soon
Beneath the high yellow moon

8. AROUND MY WAY

You walk by, I get weak in the knees
I get so tongue tied I can’t even speak
I got something that I want you to know
But you walk by
Like you got somewhere else to go
Darling when you come around my way
Darling when you come around my way
I wish I knew some way to explain
The way you do me
When you do me the way that you do
I can only hope you feel the same
Feel the way I do,
But you don’t even know my name
Darling when you come around my way
Darling when you come around my way
It’s been a while
Since you said you’d be mine
After all this time
You been right here by my side
And I can’t believe it feels the same
As the very first time
You came around my way, I hope you stay
Stay around my way

9. WASTED WORRY

I’m bouncing around Like a bunch of heat lightning
Falling from cloud to cloud
I make a lot of noise and I flash about
But I ain’t coming down
And it feels like I’m about a million miles
From nowhere and I’m even farther from home
It’s gonna be about another hundred days
Before I get to rest my bones

And I know that worry,
Well it’s just a waste of time
I’ve got to ease my mind
I know this worry
Just won’t leave my mind alone
But I gotta walk on

I’m gonna make it my mission
To escape from this prison
I won’t be held victim
To somebody’s opinion
I got open eyes and tunnel vision
For whatever it might bring
I sit and watch as the clock goes round
And all my time keeps running out
What can I do with all this hope I’ve found
When I still have all this doubt

And I know that worry,
Well it’s just a waste of time
I’ve got to ease my mind
I know this worry
Just won’t leave my mind alone
But I gotta walk on

My demons, my demons are my own
They always find me, Find their way back
No matter where they’ve gone
My angels sing so sweetly,
But we just don’t talk anymore
My path is set before me,
This road I must walk,
I’m always going up hill
You seem hell bent On bending my will,
But it just grows stronger still
I cry out with joy and I cry out with hunger
Because I just can’t get my fill
I’ll take my chances, I’ll place my bet
I don’t mind the risk
As long as I live to regret it
I’ll place my bet, I’ll roll the dice
They say opportunity don’t knock twice
My heart keeps breaking
And I don’t know how to heal it
Feels like I’m forsaken because
I don’t know how to feel it away

10. INTERTWINED

Only coals are left from the fire
Glow softly where there once was flame
Heat fading like desire
But the heat from your touch
Is far too much to bear
So I watch from a distance
As the smoke continues to rise
Remember all the precious blessings
When your eyes would burn into mine

Your soul has seen mine
And our spirits have been intertwined
No matter what I do
I shall never be the same
Forever changed by your love

And when there are only ashes
And our love has grown cold
I shall never forget
The way you touched me
With your heart of gold

Your soul has seen mine
And our spirits have been intertwined
No matter what I do
I shall never be the same
Forever changed by your love

11. NOTHING LESS

I’ve been trying lately,
Just to hold a train of thought
I swear it just escapes me,
Can’t remember why we fought
I don’t want a second chance,
Lord knows I’ve had my share
If it’s not built to last,
We can say it wasn’t fair
I’ve been waiting all this time
For some kind of sign
Show me where I’m going,
Tell me all I need to know
But I know where I stand on my own
Because I’ve been here before
Take me as I am,
Nothing less nothing more
How long will it take for us to realize
There’s beauty in the broken
We are precious in His sight
It might never be perfect,
Doesn’t mean I haven’t tried
Lord knows I’ve been wrong more
Than I’ve been right
I’ve been waiting all this time
For some kind of sign
Show me where I’m going,
Tell me all I need to know
But I know where I stand on my own
Because I’ve been here before
Take me as I am,
Nothing less nothing more
