The Skillets Wes Tucker: vox, guitar, bass, harmonica Dave Rutkowski: drums, keyboards, Pandatar Bryan Washam: lead guitar, bass, backup vox Arch Alcantara: bass, guitars Biography: Wes Tucker & the Skillets have established a reputation throughout the D.C. and
surrounding mid-Atlantic areas as a must-see band. The combination of intelligent
songwriting backed by a powerful group of stellar musicians serves to create unique
grooves. The band shifts from folk rock, to funk, to gospel, to soulful ballads in the
space of a set list, drawing comparisons to artists from Ben Harper and Jack Johnson to
Wilco to Stone Temple Pilots to O.A.R. to Bob Dylan.
The latest album from Wes Tucker, and his first with a full band, Beauty in the Broken, departs from the mellow vibe of Tucker’s critically acclaimed first release, while furthering his reputation for well-crafted songs. Beauty is an expansion of Tucker’s style into more up-tempo rock arrangements, due largely to the addition of the Skillets. Tucker and each of the Skillets share an eclectic taste in music and the ability to play in a variety of styles, two traits that combine to create their unique sound and crowd- pleasing, energetic live performances. Tucker plays acoustic guitar, with Washam on guitar and bass. Alcantara plays bass and guitar, and Rutkowski fills out the rhythm section on drums and piano. Both albums: Beauty in The Broken (2006) and Tradition (2004) have been praised by critics and fans alike for thoughtful songwriting and exceptional composition. The recognition has earned the band multiple songwriting accolades and an impressive amount of nationwide airplay. Multiple songs from both albums have been featured on NPR affiliates, College and AAA stations, and countless Internet radio stations and pod- casts. Wes Tucker & the Skillets performed over 100 shows in 2005 and 2006 with no signs of slowing down. The band has consistently performed for capacity crowds at premier venues along the East Coast including Iota, The Velvet Lounge, The Evening Muse, DC9, House of Blues and The State Theatre. The band was also selected to play at several popular festivals, including the Steppin’ Out Festival in Blacksburg, Va., the Cinco De Mayo Fiesta in Richmond, Va., and the National Cherry Blossom Festival and Six Points Music Festival in Washington D.C. The Skillet’s appearances are consistently recognized as not- to-be-missed shows by the local press. Several songs have also appeared on a number compilation CDs including Shut Eye Records’ United State of Americana, Illumina Records’ Rockers for Life and Awarestore Records’ Ear Snacks, bringing even more listeners to the fast-growing fan base. “From funk inspired foot-stompers to soulful ballads, Tucker’s songwriting style remains strong. He is certainly a talented musician and one that will appeal to the masses. It’s obvious that Tucker is a musician that we will be hearing more from over the years.” – LEFT OFF THE DIAL You can believe that. |
